ITS HISTORY

Fort du Bois-d’Oye, also known as Fort de Bermont or Fort Eblé, was built between 1883 and 1887. Entry to the fort was via a drawbridge.

The bakery, with its two Lamoureux ovens and a capacity of 250 rations per batch, provided enough food for the 17 officers, 32 non-commissioned officers and 624 troops in 1887.

It is one of the fortifications found in Eastern France of the Séré de Rivières type.

In 1893, it was linked to other forts by a strategic railway.

The fort was modernised between 1908 and 1911 to cope with increasingly powerful artillery.

It had an optical link with the Mont Vaudois fort and the Lachaux fort, then a telephone link with Essert and the Citadel after it was connected to the electricity network in 1914.
